"The Pauly Man, Paul Mes" sell brings a unique act to the internet that combines tremendous sports knowledge with an unusual eye for, shall we say, the unusual, a talent that makes any broadcast he is involved in more fun than any human being should be allowed to experience. A native of New York (you would think he’s from the Midwest when you hear him), he was a Wall Street Whiz kid, but abandoned his talents for picking stocks to instead, concentrate on picking horses, football games, and, as the undisputed King of the Futures, predictions on sports that make Nostradomis look like some carnival palm reader with scam stamped squarely on her forehead.
Despite a penchant shared by many on the site for self sabotage, he boasts an impressive list of broadcast credentials. He has worked on live TV in horse racing, been a performer on many sports television talk shows, done extensive work for a variety of radio stations, and now brings his talents to DeFo radio.com. He was the original creator of the Trivia Challenge and it is with great pride we bring you the expanded internet version of the game so it can be enjoyed daily by all of our fans.
The Trivia Challenge has been running on a variety of South Florida radio stations and not only will test your sports knowledge but should start your Saturday with a broadcast that leaves a smile on your face. It is here Messell’s wit and story telling abilities shine, making the first 15 minutes of the show a sometimes gut busting start to your weekend’s enjoyment of sports. Paul Messell is one of a kind, and, while some people in his life would say, "Thank God" to that, DeFoRadio.com is thrilled to display his talents in blogs, weekly shows and, most importantly, The Trivia Challenge.
If there was ever a guy who would epitomize the ruination of the Social Security System it would be Jeff De Forrest. At 59, he is well above the Mendoza line for men (54) and is counting the days until he can cash in on early checks from the government so he can take them to the track and gamble on slow horses like the proverbial little old lady who burns her monthly stipend on lotto scratch off tickets at the local convenience store.
Therein lies the inspiration behind his journalism career. Not a day goes by De Forrest doesn’t try to think of a way to beat the system, and, DeFoRadio.com is a vehicle he has sought since he began selling souvenirs at Shea Stadium as a kid in the mid '60's. The credentials are certainly there. A newspaper career in California working for relatively insignificant dailies as a sports reporter and columnist. A radio broadcasting resume that began on the west coast and has seen De Forrest achieve top ratings and generate critical acclaim during a 28 year run in South Florida. TV credits that span all sports on a variety of venues, with substantial blow-by-blow experience in his beloved sport of boxing, calling the kind of fights that decide world titles and many that make you wonder how little is going on in your life because you are watching some lame cable network's rebroadcast of obscure bouts from Europe that took place two years back. Yes, that voice is his.
Still an active broadcaster in South Florida and with credits still coming calling fights on TV, it is with great passion De Forrest begins this project, an internet broadcast and journalism site designed for people who love their sports and like to compete. If ever there was a person ideally cast to perform on the Trivia Challenge, it would be Dave "Gergles" Gergeley. A Pennsylvania native, Dave gave early indication of his unsound nature when his dream job was listed as “game show host” in his junior high school yearbook.
Living in South Florida for the past 30 years has seen Dave's popularity grow exponentially. A master at organizing sports contests and events at Shula’s Restaurants in Miami Lakes, Dave brings his unique wit and engaging personality to a variety on-air projects.
His 14 year run with the Trivia Challenge has distinguished him as both a sports expert and a trivia master. Known on the show as "The Evil Seed," Gergles is likely at any time to blow up on a caller who staggers through a set of questions on unsteady legs. You will know when he is especially disappointed in the pace of play when he levels some poor listener with a 5-point bomb in his most diabolical category, "The ABA."
The chemistry Dave has with "The Pauly Man" and Defo has made the Trivia Challenge an eclectic blend on the air, an amazing phenomenon considering the dysfunctional nature of the three characters involved.
When Gergeley is not on the air, or broadcasting here on DefoRadio.com, you will most likely find him chilling with a Perdomo Cigar while hustling unsuspecting clients on the golf course, or, sweating out an all-turf pick 3 at some simulcasting parlor with comfortable bar.
Dave is single and with a wandering eye that figures to keep him that way to the wire. His love affair with sports and entertaining, though, makes him a great asset to our broadcast team.
